So yes I saw the film last year and yes I am sort of jumping on the old Hunger Games bandwagon here but so what.

I was inspired by the film and friends' recommendations to go out and get the trilogy and it has been sat on my shelf for months because for some reason I thought if I read them too soon after seeing the film that wouldn't be cool (but also to give myself a chance to forget the plot a bit). But I finally got round to reading them and I loved them so much I munched through all three in less than a wee. As soon as I finished the first one I grabbed the second one and that had barely touched the ground before I had begun on the third one.

So yeah you could say I liked them.

I don't know what I was expecting going into this as I had liked the film but I was put off by all the hype surrounding the books in case they didn't live up to it. but they did. I was hooked all the way through. Even in the first book when I knew

what was going to happen I managed to get caught up in the drama and found myself desperately reading on to find out if she made it or not. I just got so into it.

Admittedly by the third book my enthusiasm was waning a bit. I mean I had just read two books where she is in a Hunger Games of sorts so a third one on the same subject was a bit much. So while sometimes the action seemed a little repetitive, the relationships kept me going. I kind of fell in love with Peter and was willing them to be together despite the whole Gale thing. And then some of the supporting characters stole my heart as well, particularly Haymitch and Finnick.

I just found myself really worried about all the characters and really caring whether they survived and how they were going to do it. And from talking to other people who have read it I'd say that it's hard not to get attached to them.

So go out and read these books. And don't be put off by the YA label, it just means that they aren't dense and you feel really clever when you get through 100 pages in half an hour. Drama and a confidence boost, can you ask for more from books?
